Two brothers are charged with aggravated espionage
Two brothers have been charged with serious espionage against Sweden. They allegedly leaked sensitive information to Russia. The brothers originally come from Iran but grew up in Uppsala. One of the brothers was a top manager at a Swedish authority when he was arrested last year. He will previously have worked at both Säpo and the Swedish Armed Forces. According to information, he should also have served at KSI, which is one of Sweden's most secret intelligence agencies.
According to the lawsuit, the men must have "helped Russia and the Russian intelligence service GRU, by unauthorizedly acquiring, forwarding and disclosing information whose disclosure to a foreign power could result in harm to Sweden's security". They have obtained information within the framework of employment within the Security Police and the Armed Forces.
The younger brother has been involved in the planning and, among other things, managed the contacts with Russia and the GRU.
The suspected crime has gone on for 10 years, until last autumn.
Both men deny wrongdoing.
